Student Devices

Our 2010 technology plan identified the lack of student devices as a significant challenge to successful use of digital resources in the learning environment. When compared either to national averages or to surrounding districts, our student to computer ratio was low with only 1 computer for every 4.2 students.

To address this challenge, the following multi faceted approach was undertaken:

  • Adoption of a Bring Your Own Device Board Policy;
  • Foundation Smart Schools Bright Futures campaign;
  • Three year phased Mobile Learning Initiative providing an iPad for students in grades six to twelve.

Today, District 95 students have access to multiple devices including laptops, desktops, and iPads.  And our students have the option to use our guest wireless network to connect their personal device(s) of choice.

Most importantly, our student to computer ratio has gone from 1 computer for every 4.2 students in 2010 to 1:1 or 1 device for each student at the middle school and high school level with an overall district ratio of 1 device to 1.06 students today.
