The third grade classes started the year with a watercolor of a totem pole enhanced with a variety of black marker lines. They viewed northwest Native American totem poles for inspiration. This was followed by a an oil-pastel composition of leaves arranged on a mono-print background using the side of the oil crayon to rub different textured surfaces in the art room. A scientific observation of leaves was made to serve as motivation for creative ideas. They just finished working on Southwest Native American storytellers using techniques of clay construction and then painted in brilliant colors.
