Dear Families,

Welcome to first grade at Isaac Fox School!  To make the transition to first grade easier, please keep the following information for future reference.

School Supplies:  Please make sure all supplies, as well as jackets, snow clothes, and lunch pails are labeled with your child’s name.  Periodically throughout the year, your child may need to bring in replacement supplies (crayons, glue, etc.).

Bus Riders:  During the school year, if you are planning to pick up your child instead of having him or her ride the bus, we must have that in writing.  Otherwise, we will have to put your child on the bus.

Walkers:  Meet your child outside the west lobby of the building (by the flag poles).  Also, we need to know in writing any change in “go home” information.

Lunch:  Lunch and milk tickets can be purchased in the office.  First grade lunch is from 11:10-11:55.  This includes time for outside recess.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.  If you would like to have lunch with your child, you can meet us by the cafeteria after signing in at the office.

Home Folders:  Your child will bring a “Home Folder” home each day.  Please check inside and read all notes and newsletters or homework assignments.  Please send any homework or notes for the teacher back in the “Home Folder.”  This is a vital communication link between home and school.

Newsletters:  Twice a month you will receive a newsletter highlighting activities from the previous weeks as well as any upcoming events.  These will also be posted on the teacher links.

Homework:  Each week you will receive a sheet of spelling words to be made into flash cards for practice at home.  Please save these and have your child practice reading, spelling, and writing these words in sentences.  We may also  assign a small amount of written homework.  Please sit with your child to be sure it is done correctly and send it back to school.  Unfinished class work may also be sent home for completion.

Reading Logs:  A very important part of our reading program takes place at home.  A reading log will be sent home at the beginning of each month.  These reading logs will need to be returned at the beginning of the following month.

Book Orders:  Throughout the year, Scholastic and Trumpet book orders will be available.  If you choose to buy books, please write a check payable to the correct book club.  Please do not send cash.  This is a great way to build your home library while earning points toward books for our classroom library.

Birthdays:  We all love to celebrate birthdays!  If you would like to send a birthday treat for your child to share with the class, please let your child's teacher know in advance.  Since we are following the new federal and state nutrition guidelines, please keep healthy snack choices in mind.  Non-edible treats such as stickers, etc.  are encouraged as an alternative. Treats can be dropped off in the office if they are too heavy for your child to carry.  It is helpful if you send napkins as well.  Contact your child's teacher for summer birthday celebrations.

Daily Specials:  During the week we have “specials” which enrich our curriculum.  Check out the teacher links to find out your child's specials schedule.

We hope this information is helpful to you as we start the year.  We will be communicating additional information about our reading program, math activities, and thematic science & social studies curriculum, as well as special projects throughout the year in our bimonthly newsletters.  You can reach us by phone or e-mail.  Old fashioned notes are welcomed as well.
