In this unit students are presented with the concepts of divergent thinking. Divergent thinking is necessary in many professions and is a vital part of the problem-solving process. Isabel the Inventor uses divergent thinking strategies as she brainstorms and invents. This reinforces the inventive side of divergent thinking which includes brainstorming and seeing ordinary objects in new and unusual ways. Another character, Yolanda the Yarnspinner, helps us to use divergent thinking strategies as a way to create colorful stories. Students are encouraged to brainstorm and use words creatively to add richness to their writing. In creating their work pictures, students will be exposed to similes and metaphors.
