Internet Filtering for iPads

Are there options to provide Internet Content Filtering for iPads at Home?

Some parents have asked for additional options to provide internet filtering and additional restrictions for student iPads at home.  While students are at school, and using the District 95 wireless and Internet, the websites visited are filtered to reduce the risk of inadvertently viewing obscene or pornographic images and material. It is possible to set-up your internet at home to do the same. There are several no or low cost options for home filtering.  Additionally, the district has made arrangements with a third party tool for those parents wanting filtering and additional restrictions.

  • One of the best free tools available is OpenDNS.
  • It is also possible to contact your Internet Service provider to explore options that may be included in your current monthly fee, i.e.  Parent Controls with Comcast  or AT&T Smart Controls
  • For those parents who may prefer a more robust filtering option, there is a fee based option, Curbi, which provides a parental control System for iDevices with options to:  (1) curb device usage (2) block inappropriate content (3) watch on-line behavior. Curbi is designed to work with school district networks and their management systems through their Curbi for Schools .  Documents are provided below summarizing the features, providing installation instructions, and explaining how to configure Curbi for your student.
