Consumer Education Class

Lake Zurich High School

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The objective of this course is to give you a sound understanding of the marketplace and how to function in it as a wise and thoughtful consumer. Topics include: the free enterprise system, money management, consumer rights, insurance, credit, banks, and managing your own checking account. This semester course is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT!

REQUIREMENTS TO PASS THE COURSE:

Attendance If a student reaches "10 or more" excused absences per semester he or she may be dropped from the class. Please read the attendance policy on page in your student handbook. If you cut a class you will not be allowed to make up any work, quizzes, or exams.

Tardy If you are unexcused tardy on the day an assignment is due, half credit may be awarded for any assignment due the same day.

Homework Homework points will be awarded to each unit score. Again as explained in the attendance section: if you have an unexcused tardy, your homework for that day is only worth half the points. Homework will not be accepted after the due date unless arrangements have been made with the teacher.

Unit Exams You will be given a 100 point exam after every unit. If you are absent on the scheduled exam day, you will have to take a make up exam for that unit.

Unit Grades Unit grades will be composed of your chapter homework, chapter quizzes, unit exam, and all related work for that unit (participation and special projects). The total points will be put into a letter scale, which is listed below.

You will need to have at least a "D" average on your Unit Grade in order to pass the Unit.

You will need to pass 4 out of 6 units in order to pass the course.

In borderline situations, your attendance, participation, and overall class attitude will be considered.

If you are having trouble with the course for any reason, please speak with me. Please don’t wait until the end of the semester; it could be too late.

GRADING SCALE:

Final unit grades will be based on the following scale:

A = 90%

B = 80%

C = 70%

D = 60%

GRADING BREAKDOWN:

Your grade will be the composite of all six units and a possible final exam.
