HONORS CONSUMER EDUCATION CLASS

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

The objective of this course is to challenge you in a rigorous academic environment.  You will access, assimilate, and incorporate information to formulate solutions to the economic problems and challenges presented in your everyday life. The course will give you a sound understanding of the marketplace and how to function in it as a wise and thoughtful consumer.  Topics include:  the global economic system, career development, buying transportation and housing, money management, consumer rights, insurance, banks, and managing your own checking account.  This semester course is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

 

REQUIREMENTS TO PASS THE COURSE:

 

Attendance                   If a student reaches “10 or more” excused absences per semester he or she may be dropped from t he class.  Please read the attendance policy in your student handbook. If you cut a class you will not be allowed to make up any work, quizzes or exams.  If you have an unexcused tardy, your homework will only be worth half the points for that day.

Homework                   Homework points will be added to each Unit score. Again as explained in the attendance section. If you have an unexcused tardy, your homework for that day is only worth half the points.  Homework will not be accepted after the due date unless arrangements have been made with the teacher.

Unit Exams                  You will have to take an 100 pt exam after each unit.  If you are absent on the scheduled                     day of the exam you will have to take a make up exam.

Unit Grades                  This will be composed of your chapter homework, chapter quizzes, unit exam, and all         related work for that unit (participation, and special projects).  The total points will be put into a letter scale which is listed below.

Please note:   

1.         You will need to have at least a "D" average on your cumulative Unit Grades in order to pass the course.

2.         You will need to pass 4 out of 6 individual units in order to pass the course.

Grading Scale

                                    A - 90%*

                                    B - 80%

                                    C - 70%

                                    D - 60%

GRADING BREAKDOWN:

            Your grade will be the composite of all six units and the final exam.

**YOU HAVE TO PASS 4 OF 6 UNITS TO FULFILL THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE COURSE**

            Cumulative semester unit points 90%

            Final Exam                                           10%

THERE IS A COMPREHENSIVE FINAL EXAM IN THIS CLASS WHICH COUNTS 10% OF YOUR FINAL GRADE.
