Willum Cubbert, an architect in Terre Haute, Indiana, is hopelessly in love — unrequited love — with his downstairs neighbor, Tansy. She announces that she will be leaving in 7 days for a new job in Washington, D.C. To make matters worse, Willum’s boss, Ticky, keeps rejecting his building designs. Then his true nightmare begins with the arrival of Rick Steadman, The Nerd, a fellow ex-GI whom Willum has never met but who saved his life in Vietnam. Willum had written to Rick saying that as long as he is alive, "you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you." Rick decides to take him up on that offer, arrives unexpectedly, and seems to stay indefinitely. Despite his gratitude, Willum becomes increasingly annoyed with Rick's irritating behavior and decides he must get rid of his houseguest before he loses his mind. The ending is guaranteed to be a surprise!
