Looking for a good book?
The Abraham Lincoln Awards are a true "Reader's Choice" award. A list of titles is nominated every year and students are encouraged to vote for their favorite title. Past winners include Crank, Twilight, and A Child Called It. Our Lincoln Award books are located in the spinning display case just beyond the front desk. The spine of the book will have a sticker designating it as a Lincoln book and telling you which year it was nominated. This year's will be for 2010. If you read 4 or more titles, you can cast your vote this year - let's get Lake Zurich's votes in the mix and have our voices be heard! Interested? Here is a link to the nominated titles with descriptions of the books to help you choose. Here is page that contains some video trailers for Lincoln Award books. (Note: Trailers are in YouTube. Please watch from home, not LZHS computers.)
Every year, the ALA's Paperbacks Committee arranges a list of books around several themes that encourage students to read for pleasure. This year's themes are: Bodies, Change Your World, Hard Knock Life, and Twists on the Tale. This is a list of books classified as titles for Adults that tend to appeal to high school aged students. This list is a wide list of books, across all genres, that appeal to students aged 12-18. These titles are both interesting and popular among students.
The Printz Award is awarded yearly to a book for teen readers that shows literary excellence. The Odyssey Awards honor great audiobooks (books on tape or CD). A tool by the Ela Library that lets you check out books by genre and/or reading level.
