Student Artists Showcase Their Talent at Art Festival
On April 6, seven Lake Zurich High School students traveled to Round Lake High School to participate in the North Suburban Conference Art Show and Festival. The students helped in hanging the show upon arrival, and then attended hands-on workshops to explore unique media taught by professional artists. The workshops included glass bead making, leather molding/sculpting, bookmaking, ceramics, laser installation, weaving, and painting with stencils. The participating students included: Nicola Trumbull, Veronica Padilla, Wendy, Kristin Faleni, Liza Sidorowych, Amber Mule, and Carly Phillips.
After the workshops ended Robert Shiverts, a professional photographer, spoke of his experiences and growth in being a professional artist. He gave terrific insight to the students in getting started with various art careers.
At 6:00 pm, the doors opened and family and friends were wowed and amazed the quality of work displayed wallto- wall in the Round Lake High School Commons.
This was Lake Zurich’s first year participating in the show, and from the sounds of most viewers, the students left with quite an impression of their capabilities.
Principal Jeff Brierton of Round Lake High School said “The arts are alive!” to finish the ceremony awarding 140 students for their achievements in the show. There were 14 schools participating in the NSC Art Show presenting 50 pieces of student work, which add up to over 700 pieces of art displayed! Ten students were selected from each school as winners.
