> Program Description Student Assistance Program Overview SAP Team | SAP Referral Process | Program Description | Chemical Intervention Support Procedure Program Description The student assistance program consists of different services for students in six basic target groups: 1. Students who are chemically dependent 2. Students who abuse alcohol or other drugs 3. Students who are affected by the chemical use of others 4. Recovering students 5. Non-using and non-abusing students to support their decision to remain chemically-free 6. Students with other problems such as coping with separation/divorce in the family, pregnancy, abuse, depression, grief and loss, eating disorders, and general life transitions. Prevention The goal of prevention programs is to reduce the likelihood that students will become involved in self-destructive behaviors including alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. The SAP (Student Assistance Program) works through a referral system. One SAP referral form is used for any faculty concern related to a students possible substance abuse, or any academic, emotional or behavior problems. Student Assistance Core Screening Team: This team provides the focus for the initial referral of students once they exhibit behaviors of concern. An initial referral form can be filled out by any teacher/staff member and turned into the guidance office or the health office. The team meets whenever a referral is received. Student Services Team: This team meets weekly to discuss concerns about students who are showing signs of academic/and or behavior problems. It includes guidance counselors and the guidance department chair, social workers, the school nurse, school psychologist and the assistant principal . Intervention strategies, including community referral and in-school support systems, are discussed. Appropriate intervention strategies and follow-up measures are implemented. Chemical Intervention Team: The Chemical Intervention Team (C.I.T.) works through the SAP referral system. This team works specifically with individual students experiencing problems related to substance abuse. The team will provide information and assistance to students and parents regarding the misuse of alcohol and other drugs. All matters are handled with the highest degree of confidentiality and discretion. Faculty and staff names and specific comments are not revealed to students or parents. Please note: Students who appear to be under the influence of a substance should be referred immediately to the Deans office. Call the Deans office and have the student escorted down. Support The goal of support is to provide a variety of in-school services designed to promote academic success. These services target emotional and academic issues and range from individual counseling to problem-specific support groups.
