8th Grade Roles and
Responsibilities
Responsibility is
accepting ownership and subsequent outcomes for my own actions.
STUDENTS
§ Carry and use assignment notebook
§ Check posted grades and missing assignments in each class
§ Record assignments and ask for clarification as needed
§ Complete assignments using appropriate books and supplies
§ Submit completed homework and absent work on time
§ Bring all necessary materials to class
§ Attend review sessions and seek help when needed
§ Clarify questions your parents might have regarding grades and work
§ Communicate school information to parents and return signed papers in a timely fashion
§ Review progress reports with your parents mid-way through each quarter
§ Follow school and classroom rules
§ Attend school regularly
TEACHERS
§ Visually display homework assignments during class
§ Update grades weekly and post them regularly
§ Encourage use of assignment notebook
§ Be available to assist students as needed
§ Be available for phone calls and conferences with parents as needed
§ Provide summarized progress report mid-way through each quarter
§ Consistently enforce rules
§ Facilitate a smooth transition to the next grade level
§ Brainstorm temporary interventions to develop student responsibility
PARENTS
§ Monitor your child’s work and study habits
§ Check consistently with your child regarding his/her progress
§ Provide a study area for student
§ Establish a regular study time that is consistently followed
§ Allow child to endure natural consequences of actions in the process of developing independence
§ Contact your child’s teachers if you suspect there is a problem or if you have a concern
§ Contact your child’s team of teachers if progress reports are not received
§ Be knowledgeable of school rules and support them
§ Recognize the importance of regular attendance
