CONFERENCE PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
The philosophy of the Suburban
Middle School Conference is to provide maximum opportunities for
participation in a variety of co-curricular activities with schools that
share common middle school beliefs.
CONFERENCE SPORTSMANSHIP STATEMENT
The schools of the Suburban
Middle School Conference consider good sportsmanship to be one of the
important rewards of healthy competition. Suburban Middle School Conference
coaches, students, administration, teachers and parents support and
demonstrate good sportsmanship. Nothing less is expected of the fans who
attend our games and activities. So, cheer your team and recognize good
performance by others. Have fun representing your school and conference.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COACH
- To conduct practices that introduce or increase
skills, stamina, speed and cooperation.
- To promote and inspire good sportsmanship and
teamwork at all times.
- To supervise the players.
- To set a proper example.
- To attend to any injuries if minor and provide
medical assistance if necessary.
- To monitor academic eligibility.
- If
an athlete's conditioning becomes questionable due to repeated absences
from practice, to limit participation for safety concerns.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PARENTS
- Complete paper work that needs to be returned to coach or office before
the first game.
- To
be on time when picking up your child from practices and games. A parent
may, if necessary, pick up his/her son at the site of an away game.
However, no athlete may leave with that adult unless the coach has
received written permission from that child's parent.
- To
support your son or daughter, the team and the coach.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ATHLETE
- To
attend all practices and games in their entirety.
- To
follow the directions of the coaching staff.
- To
maintain good grades and turn in homework so that you are eligible to
play at all times.
- To
exhibit proper behavior and attend school so that you are eligible to
play at all times.
- To
purchase their own equipment.
- To
come to practice and game in appropriate and clean clothing, equipment,
and appropriate shoes.
- To
place the team above personal needs.
- To
provide parents with any information the coach would like them to have.
- To
avoid criticizing teammates.
- To
exhibit good sportsmanship at all times.
- To
listen to morning, homeroom and afternoon announcements in the event
that the game and practice schedule changes.
- To
support the team and coach throughout the season (on the bench, in the
game, in the huddle, in the locker room, attendance at sports award
ceremony at the end of the season, etc.)
- If
a student is not able to participate for a third time due to an academic
or disciplinary reason, the student will be released from the team.
- If
an athlete does not participate in Physical Education class on any given
day, they are not allowed to participate in their sport on that day.
- Students who are not
in attendance for at least 50% of the school day may not participate in
after school or extra-curricular activities for the same day.
