7th Grade Syllabus

 

Preliminary Chapter

            Vocabulary: Review of Alphabet, Basic Expressions, Days, Months, and Date. 

Learn how to say the weather in Spanish.

            Culture: Throughout Level I: Label “Unit Countries” on a map.  Recognize capital and currencies in those countries.

 

Unit 1 –Lesson 1 (Los Estados Unidos-¿Qué te gusta hacer?)

          Vocabulary: Activities students do after school

Grammar: The verbs gustar (like), interesar (interest), aburrir (bore), molestar (bother), encantar (love) –Using these verbs with infinitives and including the personal “a”

            Culture: Latin pop stars and their significance in the U.S.  Latin murals.

 

Unit 1 –Lesson 2 (Los Estados Unidos-Mis amigos y yo)

            Vocabulary: Adjectives to describe oneself.

Grammar: Using subject pronouns and the verb ser (to be) to describe oneself/others and where he/she is from.  Article/Noun/Adjective agreement.

Culture: Activities in San Antonio and Miami vs where we live. Traditional food in Mexico and Cuba, and how it changes when brought to the U.S.

 

Unit 2 –Lesson 1 (México-Somos Estudiantes)

Vocabulary: Daily schedule; Telling time; Saying what you have and what you have to do; Saying what you do and how often you do things, Numbers 40-100

            Grammar: The verb tener and tener que; Expressions of frequency, Present tense ar verbs

Culture: Compare and contrast school clothing in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the United States; The relationship between Diego Rivera and Frida Kalo and their art work, Understand that the Aztecs and Mayas existed in Mexico.

 

Unit 2 –Lesson 2 (México-En La Escuela)

      Vocabulary: Describing classes and classroom objects; Saying where things are located; Saying where you are going; Talking about how you feel

            Grammar: The verb estar, Question formation, the verb ir (ir + a + place/infinitive)

            Culture: Compare and contrast required classes in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and the United States.

 

Unit 3 –Lesson 1 (Puerto Rico-Mi Comida Favorita)

            Vocabulary: Talk about food and beverages; Ask questions; Say which foods you like and don’t like.

            Grammar: Interrogative words, Gustar like verbs with nouns, Present tense er and ir verbs, the verb hacer
