District 95

What are the goals for this year?
This year we will begin by reviewing the things learned in 7th grade (Chapters 1-6).  We will then return to the textbook.  We need to cover Chapters 7-12, which will complete the material learned in Spanish I at the high school.  The goal is to maintain an 80% throughout the school year in order to enter the high school at Level II.  Some students enter Spanish I, but this is a repeat of the material covered in 7th and 8th grade.  Hopefully with the slower learning pace at the middle school, most students will enter in Spanish II.

What can I expect this year?
The expectations will be similar to those seen in 7th grade, although there will be a slight acceleration to material presented.  Students can expect to receive written homework 4-5 times a week.  The homework should take an average of 20-25 minutes to complete.  Students will have, on average, 2 quizzes a week and 2 chapter tests a quarter.  Similar to last year, each chapter will have a different theme with vocabulary to memorize.  Grammar will continue to build upon itself each chapter too.  The students’ foreign language skills-reading, writing, listening and speaking-will continue to increase and become more accurate.

How will my grade be calculated?
Homework…………..25%
Quizzes……………...35%
Tests…………………25%
In Class Work……….10%
Oral Grade/Misc………5%
                                    (approximately)
