8th Grade

Students in 8th grade further study the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design through the creation of a variety of artwork. The focus of art in 8th grade is to incorporate more sophisticated, complex techniques and ideas into artwork by building upon concepts studied in 6th and 7th grade art. Units covered include: drawing, painting, functional sculpture and non-functional sculpture. In 8th grade students begin to make personal choices as to how they would like to approach their artwork while still learning the fundamentals.

8th Grade Drawing
Students learn how to create an artwork originally (make it their own) when using a photographic reference, therefore, not copying
someone else’s art (plagiarism/copyright infringement). After viewing technique demonstrations on layering and burnishing with colored pencils and how to
create soft, gradually blended values with graphite, students are then asked to create a realistic illustration using one of the following:
*Colored Pencil *Graphite *Colored Pencil & Graphite (mixed-media)
