Brain colors are a fun way to understand yourself. We are introducing our 7th graders to this concept and hoping that they will dive in and take the opportunity to learn how their own personality works with "brain color". This, in turn, will hopefully lend itself to a better understanding of others and how their brains work. Students will learn to work better with groups that are homogeneous as well as heterogeneous.
Check out this slide show that explains what the brain colors are. Slide 4 says "Take the Quiz"...click on that slide to take you to the student quiz.
We have had our first Stripes Brain Activity Day. It consisted of 3 hours in the morning of students working with "like" brain color groups in 3 given activities. Human Knot--students in a group grab the hands of people across from them in the group and try to untangle without letting go. Carrot Activity--students have a carrot tied to their waist which is hanging at knee-level from the back. Students must get the carrot into the cup without touching the carrot or string. Balloon Activity--students kept the balloon in the air in assorted ways with their group (only using one finger, using only their heads, using only their breath, etc.) Click Here to see pictures of these activities. Students learned a lot about each other and how each brain color works. They had to help each other, work together as a team, and/or strategize to complete the task. They had fun and learned all at the same time.
