Welcome Ms. Morgan-
Thanks for filling in for Mrs. Mutolo!

Math |
During the
first quarter, an early area of emphasis in 7th Grade Algebra
will be the proper use of the “Order of Operations” to simplify
expressions. Our next major area of emphasis will be the study
of “Algebraic Properties” and the proper use of these properties
when simplifying algebraic expressions. We will then use these
properties, along with properties of equations, to solve many
types of linear equations. Next, we will focus on operations
with Rational Numbers and Rational Expressions. Finally, we will
investigate the different sets of numbers comprising the set of
Real Numbers and graph these numbers on the Real Number Line.

Science |
This
Third Quarter science will begin by completing our journey into
the brain and entering the adventure of our genome. Our study of
the brain has helped us understand not only what it is and what
it is made of, but how it works and how we can make the best use
of it. We will then begin our long study of genetics. This may
be one of the more challenging and intriguing units of study
this year in 7th grade science as it has breadth and depth of
the subject. We will explore how to predict the possibilities of
a genetic cross, how sex is determined, and explore the realm,
controversy, conundrums and dogma of genetic engineering and
genetic disorders. Just prior to Spring Break we will explore
meteorites, asteroids, comets and our moon as a subway into
Earth Science for fourth and final quarter of the school year.
Please review Mr. Clemens’ website for more details.

History |
Social Studies for 3rd quarter will be focusing on the
continuing development of the United States. The ALP students
will learn about National and Regional developments and the
attitudes that were created because of the Industrial
Revolution. They will experience through debate, the Jacksonian
Indian Removal Act, and how a national belief in Manifest
Destiny, created a westward migration.

Literature/Language Arts
Literature-
This quarter in Language Arts, the students will be
working on a short Creative Writing unit and a Poetry Unit.
The students will be given daily, in-class Free Writing
exercises. These daily activities will introduce the
techniques required for the completion of a final short
story. Most of the activities include pre-writing and
plot/character development skills. The final project for the
Poetry unit will be an anthology of each student’s original
poems. Our focus for the Poetry Unit will be on the use of
Figurative Language, creating original poems and analyzing
poetry written by others.
