| The first people on the Maldives were Aryans from
India and Sri Lanka which settled there from 1500 BC and
still some live there today. The Maldives were known for
being a trade target and had cowry shells and ambergris,
an ingredient that helped make perfumes. The Maldives
gained independence on July 26, 1965. Their first
president became Ibrahim Nasir and the Maldives have
thrived ever since, it is also in the top ten places to
go in the world! The language of the Maldivians is
Dhivehi but most people know English, and the guides
know Japanese, French, and Italian. The hottest month in
the Maldives is April and the coldest is December. Some
of the places you should visit is the Islamic Centre and
The Local Market. The Islamic Centre has a golden dome
and the structure was completed in 1984, and now it can
hold over 5000 people, a library, conference hall,
classrooms, and offices. |
