1. Paul Revere 1735 - 1818
"The British are coming the British are coming," that is what Paul Revere said on the night the British came to the U.S. He road on a horse to other towns to tell other people that the British are coming. He was a member of the "Sons of Liberty".

2. Betsy Ross 1752 - 1836

Betsy Ross made the first American flag. The first one had 13 stars in a  circle. She made the flag after a visit by George Washington in June or 1776.

3. J. Edgar Hoover 1895 - 1972

He was an FBI director from 1924 to 1972. He was highly regarded by much of the U.S. public. He was the director during the Great Depression,WW2, Korean  war, the Cold war, and the Vietnam war.

4. Xavier Cugat 1900 - 1990

A Latin bandleader from 1930s - 1950s. He was a tango violinist that made over 25 records. He first appeared in the tango craze.

5. Barry Goldwater 1909 - 1998

During World War two Goldwater signed up for the United States Air force. Arizona senator who ran for president in 1964. Goldwater was an opponent of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

6. J.D. Salinger 1919

Salinger was drafted into the military in WW2. He was part of  the infantry. Salinger was in the bloodiest battle where he experienced the horrors of the war. Salinger is also author of "Catch in the Rye".

7. Robert N. Cronk 1924

First American born in 1924 at 12:00:05. Robert signed up for the United States Air force and served for three years there. He is still living to this day.

8. Kathleen Casey 1946

First baby boomer born just after midnight. She thinks her generation did a lot of great things which is true. She is still living to this day.

9. Verne "Mini-me" Troyer 1969

Character from the " Austin Powers" movies. Since the Austin Powers movies, he has appeared as an actor or a stuntman in a number of movies. He was born in Michigan and is still living to this day.

10. Kala Sosefina Mileniume Kauvaka 2000

First baby born in the second millennium. Born at 12:06 a.m. on New Years day, she is a contestant for the first baby born of the millennium.

The first day of the year. Everyone sleeps in and creates a New Year's Resolution.

Bulgaria and Romania became the 26th and 27th. They joined 17 years after communism ended.

3. The Euro becomes the official currency of most of Europe. 2002

Three years before this 11 countries made their currency the euro. In 2002, the European currency will be the euro as of January 1st as of 2002.

There was no bombing or crashing of a plane world wide on January 1st 2000.

5. The international year of the elderly. 1999

This year was celebrated as humanity's age.

6. All California Bars, clubs, and card rooms are smoke free. 1998

Employees of bars, clubs, and card rooms can now be relieved of second hand smoke.

7. Austria, Finland, and Sweden try to join European Union. 1995

There are now 15 countries in the European Union

8. Alexander Popov swims world record 100m freestyle. 1994

He began swimming at age eight and has gotten three consecutive gold medals in the Olympics.

9. International year of family. 1994

In this year, the awareness of family issues will try to be increased and understanding their problems.

10. Cigarette advertisements are not permitted in New York City's MTA. 1993

Advertisements were banned in the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
