1334 - King Henry II of Castile: Became the king of Castile after killing Pedro in the Castilian war. he became king henry II of castile in 1366. He married Juana Manuel. (died - 1379)
1562 - Mark Alexander Boyd: Scottish poet and soldier of fortune. he left Scotland for France and studied civil law. He had two collections of Latin poems published in 1590 and 1592. "Epistolae Heroidum" and "Hymni" were two of his most admired Latin poems.( died 1601)
1628 - Charles Perrault: a lawyer and writer that went to the best schools and became a lawyer in 1651.The tales he wrote became famous as cartoon films like Cinderella and Little Red Ridding Hood. (died 1703)
1749 - Friedrich Müller: German painter, lyricist, narrator, and dramatist. He studied painting at Zweibrücken and after only a year he stopped painting and devoted himself to art. died - 1825)
1805 - Thomas Dyer: Mayor of Chicago for the Democratic Party as also and English chartist and writer. He had passion for knowledge and studied Greek, Latin and Hebrew in his spare time. he wrote a book about himself called the life of Thomas Cooper. (died 1862)
1808 - Salmon P. Chase: the 6th Chief Justice of the U.S. and is on $10,000 bill. He studied law in Washington D.C. and served as secretary of treasury for three years (appointed by Lincoln). (died 1873, stroke)
1832 - Horatio Alger, Jr: American minister and author of over one hundred books. He inspired many people from the post-Civil war era. 250 million copies of his books have been sold worldwide. (died 1899)
1864 - Wilhelm Wien: He was a German physicist and Nobel Prize laureate. his studies were interpreted by the illness of his father. In 1898 he married Luise Mehler of Aix-la-Chapelle. (died 1928)
1911 - Joh Bjelke: Petersen, longest-serving and longest-lived premier of Queensland. In 1952 he had married Florence (Flo) Gilmour. (died - 2005)
1983 - Julian Morris: He began acting when he was 13 at the Ana Scher theatre in London. That's were a British director spotted him and asked him to play a boy pushed into drug trade. He recently stared in the hit film Cry Wolf. Morris is still alive.
888 - Odo, Count of Paris becomes King of the Franks. He defended Paris against the Norsemen (885). When the King died Charles was the king.
1559 - Elizabeth I crowned queen of England in Westminster Abbey. she was the only surviving child of King Henry VII. Elizabeth never married.
1602 - William Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windor is published. It was a comedy first performed in 1600 1601. There are 23,788 words in the script.
1610 - Galileo Galilei discovers Callisto, 4th moon of Jupiter. He also made many other important discoveries.
1830 - Great fire of New Orleans, Louisiana was thought to be set by rebel slaves. There were many slave owners in new Orleans and many hard working slave rebels.
1847 - The Mexican-American war in California ends because of the Treaty of Cahuenga.
1942 - Henry Ford patents a plastic automobile,which is 30% lighter than a regular car!
1957 - Wham-O Company produces the first Frisbee. Many people claimed to have invented the frisbee.
1990 - L. Douglas Wilder becomes the first elected African American governor and takes office in Richmond, Virginia
2001 - An earthquake hits El Salvador, killing more than 800 and damaged or destroyed 278,000 dwellings.
