The ruby is July's birthstone. It is a reddish brownish stone. Named for its appearance, Latin Rubeous. It is a rare stone and found in: Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, India, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Tanzania, Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Malagasy Republic, Malawi, Pakistan, Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), United States (Montana, North Carolina).

July was named after Julius Ceasar. The Romans were the ones who organized one of the first calendars and decided to name a month after the famous leader Julius Caesar.
On this day, it was the
worst
modern earthquake. It was in Tangshan, China. At least 242,000 people in Tanshan
and around it were killed.
In 1868, the 14th amendment
was adopted. It was after the Civil war when the North divided the south into 5 military
districts. It was during reconstruction.
