Ruby

The ruby is July's birthstone. It is a reddish brownish stone. Named for its appearance, Latin Rubeous. It is a rare stone and found in: Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, India, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Tanzania, Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Malagasy Republic, Malawi, Pakistan, Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), United States (Montana, North Carolina).

July was named after Julius Ceasar. The Romans were the ones who organized one of the first calendars and decided to name a month after the famous leader Julius Caesar.
