LZMSS Band

Being in the band can help you outside of school by teaching you to read music.  It can help if you want to be in a band.  Also, if you like music you can play music to relax.

Just about anyone can join the band.  If you wish to learn an instrument and you like music, you should join the band. 

1. Cadet Band - The cadet band consists of only 6th graders and is directed by Mr. Ed Koehler. The cadet band rehearses 4th period, which is from 9:40-10:10 in room 96. Students are encouraged to start private lessons at this grade. Cadet band members have the opportunity to participate in the Solo and Ensemble contest, and may participate as a full band in the Lake County Live contest. They will be playing three pieces for the MSS Bands Holiday Concert. "All Through The Silent Night" by Mark Williams, "Conundrum" by Robert Sheldon, and "The Water Is Wide" by James Swearingen.
3. Symphonic Band - The symphonic band consists of 7th and 8th graders and is also directed by Mr. Ed Koehler. The symphonic band rehearses 10th period (1:50-2:20) in room 96. Symphonic band members are required to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Contest and perform as a group at the IGSMA Organizational Contest. This group takes a large trip every other year, most recently to Cleveland, Ohio, where they performed at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and played the National Anthem at a Cleveland Indians game. They will be playing five pieces. "The Spirit of an Eagle" by Larry Clark, "Waves" by Brian Balmages, "The Great Gate of Kiev" by Modest Mussorgsky,and "In the Bleak Midwinter" by Gustav Holst.

5. Jazz Band - Jazz band is an extra-curricular ensemble that performs jazz, Latin, and swing music as opposed to chamber music. Although generally opened to 7th and 8th graders, 6th graders are still welcome to join. Jazz band meets every Wednesday in the band room from 2:30-3:15. The Jazz band will play two pieces for the MSS Bands Holiday Concert. "Spies R Us" by Mike Story, and "String of Pearls" by Mike Lewis.
