JAZZ BAND

Jazz Band..... Jazz Band... Wow, not many people know about this. Jazz Band is a band that includes 7th and 8th grade (sometimes 6th) band members who want play jazz music. The band is organized and directed by Mr. Koehler. We practice every Wednesday from 2:30-3:15. Jazz Band is an extracurricular activity and has nothing to do with regular band times, or things to practice. Concerts are the same time as the other bands; cadet band (6th), and symphonic band (7th/8th). The Jazz band is the first band to play. Usually we play three songs and then watch the cadet. Obviously, the members then move to play with the symphonic band. There are three concerts. The Concerts include and "Fall Concert," a "Winter Concert," and a "Pops Concert." The Pops Concert is in the Spring and we play songs that we have heard before.

Tryouts: Technically there are no tryouts. You come to the first practice, and see what happens. Most of the time, there aren't even enough players to kick anyone out. If there are a lot of people. Mr. Koehler will see what each person can do and then decide.

What Mr. Koehler Is looking for: Anyone from the band can try. Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophones, Bari-Saxophones, Trombones, Percussion, and Trumpets are the main players. However, Flutes, Clarinets, and other instruments are welcome also. Also, there will be a piano player, and a bass player. Different people are tried on them IF you can play them.

Commitment: Mr. Koehler hands out a sheet of paper with the dates of the practices each Wednesday. If for some reason you can't go one day, and you know ahead of time, you need to tell him on that sheet. You can miss practice if you leave school early. You put all the dates on the calendar and schedule appointments around them. Mr. Koehler doesn't like when people say they can't come five minutes before the practice. If that happens more than once, you will be kicked out.
