What Is Poms?

Poms is a mixture of dance and cheerleading.

Tryouts for Poms (you must have a physical on file to try out) are at the end of the year, usually in May. If you make the team you get to practice during the summer and after school when school starts. You usually practice in the cafeteria or the gym. The Poms season is from the beginning of the  school year until the basketball season ends in October. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders at South can tryout for poms.

Poms meets throughout the fall to perform routines at the girls and boys basketball games. They also perform at the North/South faculty basketball game in winter. They also perform at 'Pack the house.' At Pack the House, they get to pick a boy to dance with them.

To join Poms, you should have some dance experience, though not a necessity,  since Poms is mostly dance. It's also good if you have cheerleading experience too. You also should be able to perform in front of crowds either.

During the summer, Poms gets together to learn some of their routines. The camp starts in the middle of August. It is usually late morning thru the middle of the afternoon.
