Algebra Curriculum
The Algebra Class allows students to relate and apply algebraic concepts to geometry, statistics, data analysis, and probability. Realistic and relevant applications help students answer the question, "When am I ever going to use this?" Students begin to connect mathematics to other topics they study such as science, art, and history through problems that are rich in algebraic content.
Topics in the gifted level Algebra I course are covered at great detail and at an accelerated pace. Greater emphasis on the application and integration of topics is stressed. Development of critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate math are also emphasized.
Topics to be covered during the school year include:
proportional reasoning
graphing relations and functions
analyzing linear equations
graphing linear inequalities
solving and graphing systems of linear equations
solving and graphing systems of linear inequalities
basic operations involving polynomials
factoring trinomials
solving equations by factoring
solving quadratic equations by graphing
solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula
radical expressions and equations
rational expressions, including complex fractions
