Geometry Curriculum
This course is a fast paced, in-depth study of all major topics from the geometry curriculum with particular emphasis on proof. The major focus of this course is to develop the skills necessary for exact reasoning. Organization of information is stressed for both deductive proof and numeric solutions.
At the end of this course, the student should be able to:
use deductive structure for reasoning based on precise vocabulary
prove triangles congruent in 7 ways
use CPCTC to solve equations and complete proofs
draw and label the appropriate diagram from verbal instructions
identify the hypothesis and conclusion from verbal instructions
identify the types and characteristics of quadrilaterals
use the characteristics and definitions of quadrilaterals to write and solve equations and to write proofs
use the properties of inequalities to write proofs and solve equations for polygons
write and solve equations to determine the measure of the interior and exterior angles on n-gons and the number of diagonals
write and solve equations using ratio and proportion
prove triangles similar and use the concept of similarity to establish the relative size of segments and angles
use the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse
write and solve equations for special right triangles
use the three basic trigonometric ratios to write and solve equations
write and solve equations to determine the size of all the angles and segments, internal and external, of a circle
write and solve equations of polygons inscribed and circumscribed about a circle
write and solve equations for the area of all n-gons, circles, segments and sectors
write and solve equations for the lateral area, total surface area and volume of prisms and pyramids
apply geometric principles to 3-dimensional space
