Pre-Algebra Curriculum
The Pre-Algebra class is an integrated transition into Algebra and Geometry. Students shift from using basic manipulative skills to a broader curriculum that is integrated and reflects the vital nature of mathematics.
In each chapter, students explore the languages of algebra and geometry in verbal, graphical and symbolic form. Problem solving activities and applications encourage students to model patterns and relationships with variables and functions and to construct, draw, measure and classify geometric figures.
Topics to be covered during the school year include:
order of operations
variables and expressions
properties
exponents
basic operations involving integers
solving and applying one step equations and inequalities
solving and applying multi-step equations and inequalities
operations involving rational numbers
ratio, proportion and percent
probability and statistics
coordinate geometry
angle relationships and parallel lines
perimeter, area and volume
polygons, including special triangles and quadrilaterals
pythagorean theorem
polynomials
