Class Information
Mr. Marston - 7th Grade
Literature, Language Arts, and Social Studies

The following are topics that address student's daily activities and responsibilities:

Assignments:  Each day students are required to fill out in their Agenda (assignment book).  I check regularly to see that this is being done.  All assigned work is required to be written down.  When the work is completed, the assignment should be checked off in the Agenda.   Homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school.  Homework is assignent because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, it prepares students for upcoming lessons, it extends and generalizes concepts, it teaches responsibility, and it helps students develop positive study habits.

Absent Homework Policy
:  If a student is absent from school he/she will be given extra make-up time for work, quizzes, and tests that are missed.  It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete any and all work that was missed due to absences.

Grading Scale:  Grading in all curriculum areas is based on the grading scale below:

                 90 - 100   A

                 80 -   89   B

                 70  -  79   C

                 60 -   69   D

Late or Missing Work:  It is the student's responsibility to see to it that all assignments are done completely and turned in on time.  I  realize that there are times when a student has a valid reason for not completing an assignment.  It is the responsibility of the student to let me know first thing in the morning if he/she did not complete an assignment.  The majority of the time the student will be able to complete the work during a study time later in the day.  Work that is late will result in a reduction in the grade on that assignment.  Late or incomplete work will have a negative affect grades.

Tests/Quizzes:  It is necessary to study to prepare for all tests and quizzes.  When one is prepared for a test or quiz, there is much less stress involved when taking the test.  Test reviews and notes are often done in class.  These reviews are helpful, but rarely sufficient enough for the student to do his/her best.  For the best results, the student must also study at home.

Organization and Study Habits
:  Each student has a binder and a locker that should be kept well organized.  Good organizational skills will help students avoid frustration and allow for a more successful school year.  Some things that may aid students are:  placing work/handouts in the proper section of his/her binder, bringing home the necessary homework materials, placing materials (books, binders, Agendas) that are to be brought to school the next day into his/her backpack at night before going to bed, and keeping his/her binder neat!

Good study habits will go a long way towards helping students be successful in school.  Good study habits include:

  • a quiet place to study and do homework that is free from distractions,

  • setting aside time each night to complete school work,

  • having the necessary supplies to complete assignments,

  • studying for tests and quizzes,

  • completing assignments on time,

  • working on projects early to avoid last minute frustrations,

  • making school work a priority.

Discipline:  Discipline will not be an issue for those students who choose to act responsibly.  There are consequences if a student misbehaves.  In incidences of misbehavior I try to encourage the student to reflect on the problem and make some decisions on how the problem can be avoided in the future.  Then a decision is made on a consequence for the misbehavior.  Students are responsible for following classroom and school rules.

Communication:  Students are encouraged to maintain good communication with me.  I feel that it helps to develop a good teacher/student relationships.  I encourage students to communicate with me regularly about questions and concerns.  It is in a student's best interest that we work together with regard to his/her education.  Please feel free to call if you have any questions or concerns.

Teaching is a cooperative effort between all of us.  Together I  hope to make this school year an enjoyable and productive one.
