CLASS INFORMATION

 

 

Social Studies

Students will be covering topics in U.S. History from the Age of Industry to present day We will be focusing on the events and individuals that have helped create the nation that we live in today. There will be a strong emphasis on encouraging our students to become good citizens by being informed and opinionated about past and current issues.
Students in 8th grade will be required to take the Illinois Constitution test before going onto high school. This test is given during the 4th quarter.

 

 

Literature

Students will begin the year by reading the novels, The Giver, Gathering Blue, and Messenger by Lois Lowry. This trilogy allows students to study the themes of memory, history, rules, and revelations. We will be working on other literary elements like setting, plot, character development, irony, allusions, symbolism, and theme.  Throughout the year students will continue to study these literary elements by reading other novels & short stories.

HOMEWORK POLICY

1st day late= 70%

2nd day late= 50%

3rd day late= zero

PROJECT POLICY

Late long-term projects will go down a letter grade for every day late.
