Social Studies Syllabus
U.S. History
Welcome to Social Studies!
This year, you will be exposed to a wide variety of topics in United States History. Our class begins with the Age of Industry right at the turn of the 19th century. We will move chronologically through history and will cover topics up to present day.
You are expected to come to class prepared and on time. You will be marked tardy if you are late to class. After being tardy three times you will receive a detention. You must bring the textbook, a spiral notebook, a folder just for Social Studies, and a pencil or pen to class everyday. Failure to bring any of these items could result in receiving a tardy mark for the day.
Teacher-student conferences will be held throughout the year for any student who is not performing to potential. However, it is also your responsibility to ask questions and also ask for help when it is needed.
Homework assignments will be given daily. All work is due the next class period unless told otherwise.
Your overall grade will be based on the following: Tests, projects, presentations, notebook, individual work, essay writing, group work, and class participation. Tests, quizzes and missed work must be made up in a timely fashion. Please see the 8th grade rules and handbook.
Work turned in will be checked for content, an understanding of the material, neatness, spelling and grammar. Work should be written in complete sentences unless otherwise specified by the teacher.
