   Parrotlets are the smallest known parrots, they are smart, energetic, and highly adaptable. Here are seven of the many known breeds of Parrotlet;
  • Pacific
  • Pacific Lucida
  • Green- Rumped
  • Spectacled
  • Mexican
  • Blue- Winged
  • Yellow Faced

Parrotlets can live for up to 20 years old, it is like having a four year old for ever! They can be taught to do tricks and to talk. Parrotlets are best kept as a single bird, they can be jealous and competitive. They can be rather territorial, and usually bond to one person.

They need plenty of room to fly around and to play, they are very active. They require lots of toys.

These little birds consume more than you may think possible. They need lots of food, including fresh, high quality seed or pellets, cockatiel food is good. They need fresh fruit, grain and veggies daily, so keep your fridge stocked! Never keep fruit/veggies in cage for more than a few hours, or bugs will be attracted to it! Cuttlebone, mineral blocks and  fresh water should always be available. They can and will eat anything, so keep them away from things that could be harmful, like wires, and electrical appliances.

What NOT to feed them;

  • Caffeinated things
  • Carbonated things
  • alcohol
  • Avocado
  • Rhubarb
  • chocolate
  • stems and leaves of potato
  • egg and bean plants
  • fruit seeds or pits
  • Hot food (burns bird's crop, causing death.)
  • candy, cookies ect.
