On June 15th, people will be celebrating Father's Day because of Sonora Dodd of Washington. She came up with the idea of Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. She wanted to create a special day in which she could honor her father, William Smart, a Civil War Veteran. After having her mother die, she wanted to show her father how much he meant to her. Sonora held the first Father Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on June 19th, 1910. In 1924, President Coolidge claimed that the 3rd Sunday in June is Father's Day. Roses are to be the Father's Day flowers. Red is to be worn for a father that is living and white for a father that has passed away.

There are a lot of gifts to get for your dad. You can get him a funky tie, a Father's Day card, a picture of you and him, a box of chocolate, his favorite movie, or a homemade present. On Father's Day you can take him out to dinner, have a party, play games with the famil, watch his favorite movie,go for a walk, or wash his car. He will appreciate all of these things.

My Dad is a wonderful father. He provides laughs when everyone else is down. He is full of jokes, youthful memories, and stories. My dad is the one person who I could tell anything to. He is there for me when I need him most, and even when I don't think I do. He provides my family with food, shelter, and love. My dad and I have great memories from when I was young to now. Every Father's Day, my mom, my brothers, and I sign our traditional card that we started when we were really little. On Father's Day, I will be showing my dad how much he really means to me.
