The Fourth of July

History of the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July in America celebrates our independence from England, 227 years ago. Thus, the fourth is called Independence Day. On this day, so many years ago, congress accepted the Declaration of Independence and then sent it to England. It was drafted by Thomas Jefferson months before and then signed by 56 congressmen. The Declaration itself outlines the many reasons why America wanted to separate from England. These include; the king not attending this country's problems, taxation without representation, forcing representing and judicial systems to close for his own good, not protecting his people from invasion, sending troops that harass our people, eat our peoples food, live in our peoples homes, and cutting off our country from importing and exporting products. These our merely a few of the reasons we wanted to become an independent country.

This is why we started the Revolutionary War and won.

Local 4th of July Events

There are many local Fourth of July events in Lake Zurich. Many of them occur in Paulus Park. There is a large festival, which has entertainment and food. You can listen to a band while enjoying your hot dog. Then, you can get a snow cone and go swimming. Or, you can bring your own food and barbecue. Maybe a picnic of sandwiches is your style. Whatever you like you can come in the morning and stay all day. There are lots of fun games for kids like the dunk tank, the moonwalk, and jungle gym.

At night you can enjoy the fireworks which are set off over the lake. They have spiders, rings, saturns, flash bulbs, and all sorts of other fireworks. You can watch them from Paulus Park or across the street from JJ Twigs. (walking is suggested) But, before the fireworks watch the boat parade. Come to the 4th of July Festival and have a good time.

Happy Fourth of July
