LZMS South PTO Minutes

September 11, 2008

The meeting was called to order by Lana Fava at 7:15 pm.

Those present:  Lana Fava, Lynn Tsiapas, Laurie Landgrebe, Peggy Walding, Julie McPeek, Nancy McCullough, Susan McIlwain, Lee Carlson.

President – Lana Fava

• The PTO presidents met last week.  Most of the discussion at the meeting was on the drug testing for High School.  They will be testing10% of the High School population who participate in extra curricular activities, sports, or who have a parking space. They plan to have the pilot program start in March of 2009.
• Redistricting committee is meeting and is surprised at the disparity among the buildings.
• The committee is meeting three Tuesdays each month.
• Still discussions on who is going to pay for the repairs that are needed at MSN,  Spencer Loomis and the High School due to construction problems.
• Enrollment is 30 to 60 students down district wide. 
• Next year looking to distribute the buzz book electronically.  We would need parent email addresses to be able to do this.

• A motion was made by Julie McPeek and Laurie Landgrebe seconded the motion to approve the minutes of the August meeting.

Treasurer – Patti Schumacher

• A check was issued for MSS’s portion of Parent University.

Principal -- Dave Gardner

• No report.

Teacher Rep – Denise Zuk

• No report.

Community Service – Laurie Finn, Cheryl Eisenhuth

·         Follow up on the Community Service Club to see if we can get kids to volunteer for market day.

8^th Grade Bash – Ann Wayne, Joanne Glatz, Rita Thurston, Anna Venetos

·         No report.

Flower Sale – Jill Davis

·         No report.     

Halloween Activity –Kathy Donahue, Janet Peterson, Cheryl Eisenhuth

·         No report.

Health & Safety/Character Counts –  Amy Haynes, Carmela Giovinco

·         No report.

Hospitality –, Terry Ihm, Julie Schaefges, Sheila Pittman, Laurie Landgrebe

·         Latte ladies are coming on 10/24.

Landscaping – Sherri Adelizzi

·         No report.

Magazine Drive – Julie McPeek, Peggy Walding, Nancy McCullough, Linda Sinclair

·         So far $45,000. in magazines have been sold this year.  Last year $59,000. was sold.

·         Only 40% of the kids participated.

·         The turn in has been extended to next Wednesday September 17^th.

·         Free Dipping Dots to any student turning in an order.

·         Mr. Gardner will be sending out a mass email to parents letting them know we are down in sales.

·         October 3^rd is the date for the inflatables.

·         In order to do the dunk tank we need to get closer to the budgeted amount.

·         The committee is looking to push the start of the magazine sales to mid September next year.

·         36 kids so far have earned pitches for dunk tank, if we can do it.

Market Day –Open

·         Still looking for a person to do market day.  Need volunteers to work for market day.

Parent University – Eileen Mattison

·         There is a planning meeting for the committee on 9/15 to discuss Parent University

Part 1.  Parent University Part 1 will take place on 11/5 in the MSN cafeteria from

7-9 p.m.  The purpose of the part 1 is to let parents get together to discuss issues that they are experiencing in their families along with a workshop on how to better communicate with their children. Speakers include Dave Gardner, Jackie Glese, MSN Guidance Counselor, and Dr. Timothy Hull.  Dr. Hull will discuss the price of privilege and dealing with parental pressure.  Part 1 is FREE and is open to all interested parents.

·         Article in the Herald for the bulling seminar Tuesday Sept 16^th.

Spiritwear  –  Laura Dawson, Sharon Callard

·         No report.

Student Supply Box – Vicki Clement, Cindy Miller

·         No report.

Volunteer –Sheryl Durment, Lee Carlson, Susan Sweeney

·         We need to find a way to get the buzz book bound for this year.

·         Volunteer list has been salvaged.

·         Working on getting the list reformatted and out by September 15^th.  If you need volunteers sooner please contact Sheryl.
