LZMS South PTO Minutes
October 8, 2009

The meeting was called to order by Lana Fava at 7:00pm .

Those present: Lana Fava, Shari Sorrell, Lynn Tsiapas, Patti Schumacher, Lisa Warren, Diana D’Avello, Pam Rowell, Pam Anderson, Anne Close, Mary Santi, Julie Schaefges, Peggy Walding, Linda Sinclair, Kathy Cotter, Eileen Mattison, Laura Dawson

President – Lana Fava
• Special Needs Support Network met with all the PTO Presidents. They asked for a $100.00 donation from the PTO’s. There was discussion on whether we should give a donation. A motion was made to give the donation by Eileen Mattison and seconded by, Julie Schaefges, a vote was taken and there was one opposed and motion passed.

Vice President – Shari Sorrells
• No Report

Secretary – Lynn Tsiapas
• Shari made a motion to approve the May and September minutes and Linda Sinclair seconded the motion, and minutes were approved.

Treasurer – Patti Schumacher
• There is $3,000 in additional funds available over the budget funds.
• We tabled the discussion of what to do with the additional funds until Lana speaks with Dave Gardner on Tuesday.

Teacher Rep – Open
• No Report

Community Service –Lisa Warren, Cheryl Eisenhuth, Becky Steindel, Amy Young
• Joanie’s Closet was discussed. Questions were asked if this was school or district project. Lana confirmed that it is a district project. This item was put on hold until we can get more information.
• The committee is working with Soar on collecting can goods for the food pantry at the Halloween Activity.

8th Grade Bash – Anna Venetos, Joanne Glatz, Rita Thurston, Amy Zurcher,Andrea Fitzgerald
• No Report

Flower Sale – Diana D’Avello, Liz Ross
• No Report


Halloween Activity –Cheryl Eisenhuth, Pam Rowell, Eileen Pesce, Pam Luby, Colleen Koebel, Pam Anderson, Allison Reichel, Anne Close
• Flyers are out for the event.
• They are working on decorations.
• A couple who have a child in the school has agreed to donation their decorations for the Haunted Hallway.

Health & Safety/Character Counts– Michelle Samonty-Sheperd, Mary Sanit
• They are waiting to hear back from Mr. Gardner.

Hospitality –Julie Schaefges, Sheila Pittman, Pam Luby, Colleen Koebel
• Late Ladies are coming on October 24th; they are giving us a 20% discount.
• The parent teacher conference dinner will be on November 10th.
• They cleaned out the teachers lounge and the red ribbon box was moved.

Landscaping – Open
• No Report

Magazine Drive – Julie McPeek, Peggy Walding, Nancy McCullough, Linda Sinclair
• There was $115,000. in magazine sales, this includes internet sales which gives us $51246.45 of profit and the PTO will receive 40% of this.
• 53% of the school participated; this is an average of 6 orders per child.
• There was $250.00 in cash donations.
• 18 students won the limo lunch.
• Movie 70 won

Market Day –Mary McDermott
• There has been 2 sales since school started which averaged $100.00 per sale

Newsletter – Kathy Cotter
• The deadline for articles is the 1st Thursday of the month.
• There was a request to put Isaac Fox’s bazaar in our newsletter.
• Since the newsletter is now online Kathy will be adding a link to market day, magazines and escript.

Parent University – Eileen Mattison
• They are working on lining up speakers.
• Bob Gleasie is speaking on November 4th. The topic will be on effective parenting methods.

Publicity – Open
• Kathy Cotter sent info on Parent University to a local newsletter
• There is an email for the Courier to add community information in the paper.

Spiritwear – Laura Dawson, Sharon Callard
• Yesterday the merchandise was delivered from spring and start of school sales.
• They are going to do a holiday sale this year.

Student Supply Box – Open
• No report


Volunteer –Sheryl Durment, Lee Carlson, Susan Sweeney
• The teachers are still voting on the buzz book cover.
