Dear May Whitney Families,

Welcome back to another school year at May Whitney!  We have several new faces in our building this year.  Please welcome Mrs. Jackie Docel in first grade, Mrs. Kate Demeas (co-teaching with Mrs. Elliott) in third grade, and Ms. Wendy Palazon in the Library.  We are also pleased to have Mrs. Laura Matuszewski (our former Title I Aide) as the new instructional 2nd grade teacher.  Ms. Laura Yacopino joins us from Seth Paine.  She is the instructional 5th grade teacher.  Mr. Julio Ojeda, our long-time custodian, is out on medical leave; replacing him is Mr. Marcos Barbechos.  Some of our teachers have different assignments this school year.  Ms. Brown is teaching first grade.  Ms. Donnowitz and Ms. Pender have joined the third grade team.  Finally, Ms. Brausam married over the summer.  Her new name is Mrs. Kapczynski.

A big thank you to the MW PTO.  They have once again provided assignment notebooks to all of our third, fourth and fifth grade students.  I want to remind you that we have a new PTO Executive Board this year:  President – Stephanie Brown; Vice President – Alison Rigsby; Secretary – Kim Ketcham; and our one returning member Treasurer – Leanne Walker.  There have been several flyers that have gone out this week.  Please plan on attending next Friday’s Back to School Party.  It will be held from 5:00-7:30PM.  It is a great time to meet new people and reacquaint yourselves with old friends.

Next Wednesday, September 3rd and Thursday, September 4th we will be holding our May Whitney Curriculum Nights.  Wednesday night is for parents of students in Kindergarten, first, and second grades.  Thursday evening is for third, fourth, and fifth grade parents.  Both evenings will begin promptly at 7:00PM in the gym with brief introductions of our classroom and specials teachers, followed by a presentation with your child’s classroom teacher.

Have a great Labor Day weekend,

Deb Bruemmer

Principal

PS  We would like to cut down on all of the paper we use.  We would like to know how many families would be interested in simply accessing the newsletter on the MW website.  If you feel you need a paper copy or don’t have access to a computer, please return the bottom portion of this sheet.  We plan to begin using the website in a few weeks.  I will let you know when we switch over.
