(Lake Zurich, IL) – A student in
Laura Raineri’s fifth-grade class at Isaac Fox
Elementary School in Lake Zurich won first prize in
the Foundation for Investor Education's InvestWrite
essay competition. The student competed against
other fourth and fifth-grade students nationwide to
win the top prize: a laptop computer and a trip to
Disney World with his parents.
Unbeknownst to the fifth grader and
the rest of the students at Isaac Fox Elementary
School, an assembly will take place on Tuesday, June
3rd at the school. The student’s parents
will also be present to congratulate their son when
he finds out that he has won first place.
The student’s teacher, Laura Raineri,
will also be presented with a laptop computer, a
5-day trip to New York for the NYSE Teach The
Teacher workshop and a 1-year subscription to the
Wall Street Journal. The student’s class will
receive a classroom pizza party, and the school will
be presented with the InvestWrite trophy and a
letter of achievement.
InvestWrite is an enhancement
to The Stock Market Game™ (SMG) program. Teachers
whose students are participating in the SMG can
submit student essays to the national
InvestWrite
competition.
InvestWrite
is the language arts component of the SMG program,
and offers an opportunity for additional learning
and competition. Students write an essay in
response to a given question or topic.
The InvestWrite competition is
divided into three grade levels: Grades 4-5, Grades
6-8 and Grades 9-12. In addition to national awards,
one student in each grade level is selected as
"State Winner."

The student’s team also placed 12th
out of 450 teams in the region in The Stock Market
Game™.
A student from Mary Whitney
Elementary School was also be presented with honors
for winning 6th place in the nation in
the 4th-5th grade level.
InvestWrite is coordinated out of the
offices of the Illinois Council on Economic
Education (ICEE) and its state Centers. ICEE is a
non-profit organization housed in Northern Illinois
University Outreach. ICEE strives to promote
economic and financial literacy throughout K-12
schools in Illinois.
