Dear
Parents/Guardians, Staff Members & Community
Members,
Either through communication from
Lake Zurich High School, District 95 or news media
reports, I am sure that most if not all of you now
know about the arrest and court arraignment of Wayne
Kuklinski, a driver’s education instructor and
assistant football coach at Lake Zurich High School,
on multiple child pornography and firearms charges.
Many of you have had additional questions about the
investigation, his work status, when the district
found out about the allegations, and other
questions. The purpose of this letter is to update
you on this situation as best I can.
Teaching Status: I have
been informed by the Lake County State’s Attorneys
Office that Mr. Kuklinski’s bond agreement with the
court includes the following stipulations:
- No
unsupervised visitations with anyone under
the age of 18
- No contact
on District 95 school premises/property at
any time
- No
computer or internet use
- 24 hour
curfew
- No contact
of any kind with any District 95 personnel
As you can see, his bond agreement
effectively ends Mr. Kuklinski’s ability to teach at
Lake Zurich High School until the matter has been
handled by the courts. Furthermore, the Board of
Education may consider further personnel action at a
special Board of Education meeting that will
immediately follow the January 11 Committee of the
Whole meeting.
What/When Did District 95
Know?: I was first notified about the arrest of
Mr. Kuklinski after he had been taken into custody
on December 19. I was notified of the full extent
of the charges on December 20. At that time, I
issued a written statement regarding the charges
that was emailed to all staff, area news media, and
to the parents and community members on both the
District 95 Key Communicator (KeyCom) Network and
Dr. Michael Egan’s Bear Information Network (BIN).
The statement was also posted on the high school and
District 95 web sites that same day.
It is important to remember that
this matter is still under active investigation by
law enforcement authorities. As more information
becomes available to me, I will be providing updates
through our district website and our Key
Communicator Network. If you are not a KeyCom
member, simply send an email to
KeyCom@lz95.org
and request to be added to the KeyCom Network.
I know that this is a difficult
situation for our families, our school district and
the entire community at what should be a happy time
of year. However, by working together and
maintaining open lines of communication, we can and
will continue to provide every child with a high
quality education in a safe and secure learning
environment.
Sincerely,
Brian Knutson
Superintendent
