Birth-to-Three "Early Intervention Services"

Early Intervention consists of programs and services provided to infants and toddlers with disabilities from birth through age 2.

Certain children are identified at birth as having disabilities. For these children services can begin soon after birth. District 95 refers services for these young children to an Illinois state Agency named Child and Family Connections with the Lake County Health Department. Child and Family Connections assists families in securing itinerant services (e.g. speech therapy, occupational therapy) for children identified at this age.
bullet The District is also responsible for transitioning children 0-3, receiving Early Interventions services from Child and Family Connections to District 95 special education services. At the age of 2 1/2, Child and Family Connections notifies District 95 of a child in need of transition. The District has up to 6 months to complete any additional evaluations the team recommends and then meet with parents to discuss whether continuing intervention is needed. A variety of options may be discussed with parents.
