MAP Testing
We will be doing our Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) testing beginning Monday, September 8th. The testing will be completed by Friday, September 26th. All our 2nd-5th grade students will be taking three tests- math, reading and language. Each test takes approximately one hour to complete. There is no time limit so students can take as much time as they need. Since we began using the MAP data last two years ago it has given us very good information to help teachers modify curriculum based on the students’ needs. The other benefit of using this assessment is that it gives us almost immediate feedback. MAP results will be sent home the beginning of October.
Back to School Nights
Thank you for a great turn-out at our three Back to School Nights. We have had a fantastic start to the school despite some of the structural issues in August. The students, staff and parents seem to be very positive and excited about the 2008-09 school year.
Safety and Security
The Safety and security for all our students is our main priority @ Spencer Loomis. If you are planning to have lunch and go outside for recess, please check-in at the front desk PRIOR to joining your children outside at recess. Some of our students have recess prior to their scheduled lunch. We also want to remind you that all visitors at all times must check-in through the office before entering the building. All doors are locked except the main door by the office. Our number #1 priority is the safety of your child. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Paperless Newsletter
We are doing our best to save a few trees and make your life a little less complicated. You can view my newsletter at www.lz95.org and go to “Schools” and drag to “Spencer Loomis” and then go to “Principal’s News”. If you do not have access to the internet we will send a hard copy of my newsletter home with your child on Fridays.
Drop-off/Tardiness
As a reminder do not drop your child off before 8:20 am, as there is no supervision for the students. I want to thank all the parents for making a concerted effort to get your child to school on time. I have been outside greeting our “Drop-off” students every morning and I have noticed a positive difference with the students arriving on time. THANK YOU!
