The mission of the Lake Zurich Unit School District's Library Media
Program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of
the ideas and information. This mission is accomplished:
by
providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all
formats.
by
providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in
reading, viewing, and using information and ideas.
by
working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet
the needs of individual learners.
***Credit to Information Power: Guidelines for School
Media Programs (1988) p.1
The LMC program incorporates three vital components to insure our
students become continuous learners and to prepare them with the
skills to achieve their goals and flourish as responsible, caring
citizens in a global community. The three components are:
collaboration
with staff members to enrich student learning.
instructional
resources to support the curriculum.
direct
instruction to students and staff to enable them to competently use
these resources.
To implement these components, the Library Media Specialist in cooperation with the
classroom teachers offer programs to meet the challenges of a world
with constantly increasing information and constantly changing
technology. The programs are based on the following beliefs:
Library
Media Specialists provide materials and assistance in integrating and
enriching the curriculum.
Library
Media Specialists provide leadership and expertise in the use of
information, literature, and technology.
Library
Media Specialists provide programs which encourage students to
access, evaluate, and utilize information.
