CAT Start Up

  1. Check with your Technology Support Specialist to see if your CATs are ready
  2. Turn on your Teacher workstation (computer)
  3. Wait a few minutes, then look at your CATs. Does anything show on the screen? If yes, continue to the next step. If not: Are the monitors turned on? (power button in the corner of each monitor)
  4. Novel Log in: Log in as a student.
    1. Name: studentxx (replace the xx with your (the teacher's) initials)
    2. Password: the initials of your school (i.e. Charles Quentin = cq)
    3. Click "ok"
  5. Windows workstation Log in (a second login box which may appear)
    1. Name: student
    2. Passwork: leave blank
    3. Click "ok"
  6. Congratulations, your CATs are now ready to be used! Check out the links on the IT website for your grade level for games/activities sorted by curriculum.

***Special Note*****

The computers remember the last log in and keep that in memory. What that means is in the morning the student username might already be in the login screen on your teacher workstation.

  1. You will need to change the user name for the Novell log in to your user name (first initial last name).
  2. You will also need to change the little blue Windows Workstation log in user name to Teacher and type in your regular password.

What is a CAT?

CATs (Children Access Terminals) is the nickname created for the multiple computers running off of the teacher workstation. This allows for multiple computers to be installed in classrooms in a very cost-effective manner.

Why CATs?

CATs allow for more computers per dollar. Lake Zurich is currently implementing CAT technology in the 1st - 3rd Grade classrooms for the 2008-2009 School year. The plan is to implement additional CAT technology through 4th and 5th grades during the 2009-2010 school year.

CATs were piloted by many teachers prior to the decision to implement the technology. A HUGE thanks to the following teachers for their time and input:

Barbara Roach Carol Layton Colleen Johnson
Jennifer Brausam Kimberly Woodley Liz Staackmann
Marie Rothermel Mary Giglio Megan Guerrero
Paula Vanderlinden Sharon Rane Susan York
Suzanne Weider
