Welcome to the Anasazi World!
Grade: 3
Subject: Native Americans: Anasazi tribe
Curricular Goal: Students will find out how the Anasazi lived off the
land.
Introduction:
Imagine that you live in a palace on a cliff long long ago. Every day you
climb up ladders to get to your front door. How do you think you would be
dressed? What foods would you eat? What chores would your parents
want you to do, and what games would you play?

Task:
Your task is to find out about the Anasazi lifestyle. You can visit
websites or look at books to discover information about six topics: food,
clothes, tools, chores, games, and housing. You will show what you've
learned by creating a colorful Anasazi blanket, with pictures and captions.

Process:
To create your blanket, you will need to complete tasks in six areas:
1. Housing: What kind of houses did the Anasazi live in? Draw
a picture on one of the blanket sections of the Anasazi "apartment"
houses and explain in a caption what natural materials they used to build the
houses.
2. Food: Where did their food and water come from? Draw a
picture on one of the blanket sections of a typical meal, and explain in a
caption what they were eating and drinking.
3. Clothing: How did the Anasazi make their clothes, and what did
they wear? Draw a picture on one of the blanket sections of an Anasazi
child, and explain in a caption what the child is wearing.
4. Tools: What tools did the men, women, and children use?
Draw several examples of tools on one of the blanket sections, and explain in a
caption what the tools were made of.
5. Chores: What work did the men, women, and children do? Draw
a picture on one of the blanket sections showing an Anasazi person doing a
chore, and explain in a caption what is going on.
6. Games: If you were an Anasazi child, how would you have
fun? Draw a picture on one of the blanket sections showing Anasazi
children at play.
