Introduction: The subjects of landscapes in art vary from artist to artist, century to century.
They can range from paintings of mythological allegories to black and white photographs of
stark realism. The choice of subject depends upon what kind of investigation the
artists wish to explore. No matter what subject artists choose to depict, the one commonality they all share is that of the world surrounding them. Landscapes are not just a reflection of reality, but also of how the artist interpret it.
Task: Pretend that you work for the Art Institute of Chicago as an art collector. The museum curator has asked you to take charge of the upcoming "Landscape Gallery." Your job is to look for at least 5 landscapes from 5 different epoch using a variety of art media.
