Subject: Social Studies/ Geography
Curricular Goal: Students will explore the five themes of geography by
researching a country.
Introduction:
You are a part of a successful company, Brownsievic Manufacturing, that is currently
considering expanding its operations to a foreign country. The company wants teams
of employees to research different country possibilities. The company has narrowed
the choice of possible locations to: Saudi Arabia, China, Algeria, Indonesia, Venezuela,
Latvia, Dominican Republic, and others. Your goal will be to develop a list of pros
and cons for expanding its manufacturing to your designated country. Through this
experience, you will have an opportunity to work with your peers and explore many
areas of this planet that you have yet to see.
Task:
Your group will be researching the positives and negatives for moving to your assigned
country. You will present your information to the company President and the Board of
Directors. Include pictures, graphs, and information in your presentation.
Process:
The first thing you and your colleagues need to do is divide up the following research
roles: Economic Expert, Cultural Expert, Government Expert, and Physical Geography
Expert.

Each group member will be given an individual grade as well as a group grade.
Individuals will be graded based on:
The fulfillment of his/her job
The quality of material included in the presentation
The content, organization, and mechanics of the persuasive speech
The creativity executed to complete the work
The neatness exhibited in the final product
Group grades will be based on:
The overall appearance of the final product
The collaborative effort exhibited to complete the presentation
The fulfillment of the project criteria
Conclusion:
By completing this WebQuest, you have cooperated with your peers to gain knowledge about
your selected destination and about the five themes of geography. In addition, you
will learn how to gain knowledge about a company based on its systems of government,
economics, and cultural diversity.
