Folklore and Fairy Tales

Introduction:
Students will explore the elements of the Fairy Tale Cinderella and apply the elements to their own original version.

Task:

Your task is to read and compare several versions of the classic fairy tale Cinderella.  You will then have the opportunity to write a Cinderella for the new millennium.

Process:
Students will read a printed version of Cinderella.  They will then read and chart the comparisons of three other versions on the internet.  The final product will be a chart and a written fairy tale.

Resources:
    A printed version of Cinderella
    The following web sites:
Tattercoats
Cap o' Rushes
Molly Whuppie

Evaluation:
We will evaluate them in a chart with the following components: character name, character traits, problem/predicament, supernatural or unnatural powers, and moral/lesson.
In the written story we will be looking for the following points:  focus, characterization, modern day elements, and spelling/grammar.

Conclusion:
Students can share their stories with the class and have them published on the web.
