Colonization
Travel Brochure
Grade: 5
Subject: Social Studies
Curricular Goal: To create a colonial travel brochure
Introduction:
Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be a leader of
an unsettled land? What would it be like to be frustrated with the government
controlling your destiny? Are you an ambitious person who likes to take initiative
for what you believe in? Each of you will become a leader of a colony. You
will create a travel brochure to persuade citizens of Europe to come and enjoy new
religious freedom and discover successful opportunities.

Task:
You are to become a leader of one of the thirteen colonies your
teacher has assigned to you. You are to create a travel brochure persuading European
citizens to come to America. You want to convince the citizens that your colony is
the best place to settle in North America. You will research your colony using the
outline below. You will then create a tri-fold brochure using either ClarisWorks or
Student Writing Center.

Process:
Focusing on your assigned colony, use the Internet resources listed
