Homelessness WebQuest
Grade: 8th grade
Subject: Literature/Language Arts
Curricular Goal: Students will read expository text, take notes, and
write an expository paper.
Introduction:
You are a high school student completing the same assignment as Kelly
McAllister from December Stillness.

Task:
Write an expository report for your current issue class about
homelessness. Your papers must include the answers to the following questions. How
many people experience homelessness? Why are people homeless? Who is homeless? What is
already being done to help these people? What can you personally do to help them? Utilize
two days in the computer lab, one day to read for information and one day to reread and
take notes.

Process:
1. Read for information.
2. Reread to take notes.
3. Write an outline to organize your paper.
4. Write a first draft of your expository report.
5. Edit and revise your draft.
6. Submit final copy and notes.

Evaluation:
Kelly's teacher will evaluate your paper based on research, notes, and
the quality of the expository report. Product descriptor and checklist will be provided.

Conclusion:
Students will have a knowledge base for finding information on the
internet and creating an expository essay based on research. Students will use this
information to evaluate character motivation in the novel December Stillness.
