Go to the WebQuest Page Who's Who in Illinois PoliticsGrade: 12 Introduction: Illinois state law mandates a successful study of the Illinois Constitution in partial fulfillment of the requirements needed to graduate from any public high school. While the constitution enumerates and describes the various political offices, it does not identify the current office holders. The purpose of this WebQuest is to name the current political leaders in Illinois and (wherever possible) to match those leaders with their photographs.
Task: Students will complete their "Who's Who in Illinois Politics" charts, and will visit the appropriate web sites sufficiently to be able to recognize photographs of the main constitutional officers of Illinois.
Process: During the unit on the Illinois State Constitution, but prior to the date the Government classes will meet in the LZHS computer lab, students will be given a blank copy of the chart "Who's Who in Illinois Politics". While in the computer lab, students will be encouraged to work collaboratively (and help each other) complete their charts. Students should pay particular attention to those web sites which contain current photographs of the officeholder.
Resources: Who's Who in Illinois Politics(An internet Information Processing Experience)Directions : Use the following hyperlinks to complete your
"Who's Who in Illinois Politics" chart.
Evaluation: The state-required Illinois Constitution exam includes a section requiring students to know the names of the main state and local political officers (as identified in class). Students will also complete an "open-note" test on "Who's Who in Illinois Politics" (utilizing their completed chart) before handing in their chart for a "homework" grade. A portion of this open-note test will include identifying pictures of current state and local office-holders.
Conclusion: At the conclusion of this WebQuest, students should be able to name the main constitutional officers in Illinois and also be able to recognize them appearing in person or in the mass media.
